Cancun weather in February is warm and mostly dry: average highs near 85°F (29.3°C), nights around 67°F (19.6°C) and only about 1.7 inches of rain spread over roughly four rainy days, based on the long-term averages for Cancún’s station. The catch for 2027 is wind. Forecasters expect an active cold front season, with six fronts forecast for the Yucatán Peninsula in February alone, so a few days will feel cool and gusty at the beach.
February in Numbers
| Measure | February average |
|---|---|
| Daytime high | 84.7°F (29.3°C) |
| Overnight low | 67.3°F (19.6°C) |
| Rainfall | 1.68 in (42.7 mm) |
| Days with rain | About 4 |
| Sea temperature | Around 79°F (26°C) |
These figures come from the climate table for Cancún’s weather station, which credits Mexico’s national weather service. Other climate sites give a slightly warmer picture, with highs close to 86°F, so treat the numbers as a guide rather than a promise. What they agree on is the pattern: dry, sunny and comfortable, with mornings that can feel fresh enough for a light layer.

Cold Fronts: What 2027 Is Expected to Bring
The winter “nortes” are the one thing that can change a February day. A front pushes through, the wind swings north, the sea turns choppy and the temperature drops for a day or two before the sun comes back.
This season looks busier than usual. Mexico’s national weather service forecast 56 fronts nationwide for September 2026 to May 2027, above the average of 50, with 7 of them in February, as N+ reported in September 2026. For the peninsula, Diario de Yucatán quoted a Meteored forecaster expecting 25 fronts across the season and 6 in February. Yucatán’s civil protection office gave a lower February figure, 4. Not every national front reaches Cancún with any force, so the realistic takeaway is a handful of windy days during the month.
The reason is El Niño. In its October 8, 2026 update, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center said a strong to very strong El Niño is likely through January to March 2027. In this region that tends to mean a wetter, more unsettled winter than a typical year.

What a Norte Day Means for Your Plans
Beach days aren’t the only thing affected. Boat trips are the first to get rescheduled when the wind picks up, so if you’ve planned a ferry or a snorkel tour, leave a spare day in your week.
Road transfers aren’t affected the same way. A front can bring rain bands that slow traffic for an hour or so, and that’s about it. If your flight is held by weather, your driver follows the real landing time.
February 2027 Calendar

Cancún hasn’t announced its 2027 carnival dates yet. For reference, Carnaval Cancún 2026 ran from February 13 to 17, finishing on Shrove Tuesday, with parades along Avenida Tulum and events at Parque de las Palapas and Malecón Tajamar, as Ruptura 360 reported. Because Ash Wednesday falls earlier in 2027, the parades should land in the first ten days of February.
Crowds and Seaweed
February is still winter high season. At the end of February 2026, El Quintanarroense reported Hotel Zone occupancy of 86.4% for the month to date, up from 82.9% a year earlier, and 641 flight operations at the airport in a single day. Book hotels and tours early, especially around the Presidents’ Day weekend.

Sargassum is usually less of a worry. UNAM researchers describe November to March as the low season for the seaweed. It isn’t a guarantee, though: Por Esto reported in February 2026 that the Navy had counted about 10,400 tons near the coast by mid-month. Our sargassum guide explains how to check conditions before you go.
Getting From the Airport in February
Our rates don’t rise for high season or holiday weekends. From Cancún Airport, transfers start at $32 USD to the Hotel Zone, $52 to Puerto Morelos, $69 to Playa del Carmen and $125 to Tulum town, each per vehicle, one way, for 1 to 6 passengers. We checked those against our published table on October 14, 2026.
