Cancun Airport to Tulum Hotel Zone: Beach Road Transfer From $145 (2026)

Cancun Airport to Tulum Hotel Zone by private transfer: from $145 USD per vehicle, why the beach road costs $20 more than Tulum town, how long the last stretch takes, and where the free beach accesses are.

A private transfer from Cancun Airport to Tulum Hotel Zone starts at $145 USD per vehicle, one way, for 1 to 6 passengers. That’s $20 more than our rate to Tulum town, and the difference is the beach road. The hotels along the Boca Paila road are a slow, narrow drive past the town, and that last stretch can take as long as a third of the highway trip. Both rates come from our published table, checked on October 7, 2026.

Town or Beach: Which Rate Is Yours

Where you’re staying1 to 6 passengers7 passengersSprinter van (9 to 16)
Tulum town, Xel-Há and Soliman Bay$125$130$300
Tulum Hotel Zone (Boca Paila beach road)$145$150$350

Tulum is really two places. The town sits on Highway 307, with restaurants, shops and most of the budget and mid-range stays. The Hotel Zone is the strip of beach hotels a few kilometers east, reached by a single road that runs along the coast toward the Sian Ka’an reserve.

A booking site will often just say “Tulum”. If your hotel’s address mentions Carretera Tulum-Boca Paila and a kilometer number, you’re on the beach road and the $145 rate applies. If it has a street name in the grid of the town, it’s $125. When in doubt, type the hotel name into the quote tool.

How Long It Takes

The highway part is simple. Highway 307 runs south from the airport through Playa del Carmen and Akumal to Tulum, free of tolls, in about an hour and 45 minutes.

Then comes the turn toward the beach, and the pace changes. The Boca Paila road is one lane each way, with no shoulder, speed bumps, cyclists and delivery trucks that stop in the lane. Depending on your kilometer marker and the hour, add 15 to 40 minutes. Plan on about two hours and a quarter from the airport to a hotel in the middle of the strip.

Two things make that last stretch slower. One is late afternoon, when beach club traffic leaves at the same time. The other is darkness, since the road is poorly lit. If you can choose your flight, a landing before 2:00 pm puts you at the hotel in daylight.

Give Us the Kilometer Number

Addresses on the beach road work by kilometer, not by street. “Km 7.5” tells a driver exactly where to stop. A hotel name alone sometimes doesn’t, because signs are small and half hidden by jungle on purpose.

Send the kilometer marker with your booking, along with the hotel name. If your hotel has a separate reception or parking area across the road, mention that too. Several do.

Beach Access Changed, and It Matters for Day Visitors

For most of 2025, getting onto the sand in Tulum without a hotel or beach club reservation was a real problem, and it made national news. That changed in November 2025. Mexico’s tourism ministry announced two public accesses in the Hotel Zone for the first time, at kilometer 4.5 (Playa Conchitas) and kilometer 5.5 (Playa del Pueblo).

North of the strip, entry to the Jaguar Park and its beaches was made free, with a charge kept only for the archaeological zone and the protected natural area.

If you’re staying in town and want a beach day, those two kilometer markers are the drop-off points to ask for. Rides between town and beach aren’t in our published airport table, so message us on WhatsApp for a fixed price.

What About Tulum’s Own Airport?

Tulum has an international airport southwest of town. If your airline flies there, the ride to the beach is shorter. Most international routes still land in Cancun, and that’s the airport our published rates start from.

For a Tulum airport pickup, send us your flight and hotel on WhatsApp and we’ll confirm a fixed price before you book. The main Tulum route, including the town drop-off, is covered in our Cancun Airport to Tulum guide.
