Cancun to Xel-Ha Transportation: Private Ride From $125 (2026)

Cancun to Xel-Ha transportation: a private ride from the airport starts at $125 per vehicle for 1 to 6 passengers. Drive time, a sample day trip schedule, the reopened Xel-Há Maya site and how to pair the park with Akumal or Tulum.

Private Cancun to Xel-Ha transportation from the airport starts at $125 USD per vehicle, one way, 1 to 6 passengers, the same rate we charge for Tulum town and Soliman Bay. We checked it against our published price table on October 15, 2026. Xel-Há is roughly 122 km south of Cancún on Highway 307, and the drive from the airport usually takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Where Xel-Há Sits on the Coast

The park is on the coastal highway between Akumal and Tulum, at kilometer 240 of the Chetumal to Puerto Juárez road. It’s built around a natural inlet where fresh water from underground rivers meets the sea, which is why people come for a full day of snorkeling rather than a quick stop.

That location matters for planning. From the Cancún Hotel Zone it’s a long day trip. From Playa del Carmen or Akumal it’s much shorter, and from Tulum it’s only a few minutes up the road.

The slow part of the drive is usually Playa del Carmen, where the highway runs through the city with traffic lights and heavy local traffic. South of Playa, past Puerto Aventuras and Akumal, the road normally moves well, and the park entrance is signposted right off the highway.

Prices for the Ride, by Group Size

Every rate is for the whole vehicle, not per person. These are the airport rates for the zone that includes Xel-Há, verified on October 15, 2026:

GroupVehicle price, one wayPer person if the vehicle is full
1 to 6 passengers$125 USD$20.83 with 6 people
7 passengers$130 USD$18.57 with 7 people
Group van, 9 to 16 passengers$300 USD$18.75 with 16 people, $25.00 with 12

Planning a Day Trip to the Park

Most people who ask us about Xel-Há want a day trip from Cancún, so the question is really about the ride home. Agree on your return time when you book. Parks like this one empty out at closing, and the line of cars and buses at the exit is when a fixed pickup time saves the most stress.

Here’s how we’d usually lay out the day from the Hotel Zone. The times are our estimates, and we’ll adjust them to your park ticket.

Time (approx.)What happens
7:00 amPickup at your hotel in the Hotel Zone
8:45 amDrop-off at the park entrance
AfternoonPickup at the time you chose when booking
About 1 h 45 laterBack at your hotel, depending on traffic through Playa del Carmen

Going straight from the airport works well too, if you’re staying in Tulum or Akumal and want a first afternoon at the park. Just keep in mind that check-in and luggage come first, so a quick look at the inlet is more realistic than a full day.

The Other Xel-Há: A Maya Site Most People Skip

There’s also a small Maya archaeological site called Xel-Há, run by INAH, close to the park. It reopened to the public on July 6, 2026 after improvement works, the last of 11 sites in Quintana Roo to reopen under that program, according to a report published on July 12, 2026. It’s open daily from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and adult entry was listed at 210 pesos.

It’s quiet, shaded and takes about an hour, which makes it a good add-on before or after the park. If you want the stop, tell us when you book and we’ll build it into your schedule.

Pairing Xel-Há With Akumal or Tulum

Because Xel-Há sits between two popular stops, it’s easy to string them together. Akumal, where people snorkel with sea turtles, is about 15 minutes north. Tulum’s ruins and beaches are about 15 minutes south. A day that combines the park with one of them works best with a private vehicle, since you’re not tied to a bus timetable.

If you’re staying in one of those places for the whole trip, our pages on Akumal transfers and Tulum transfers cover the airport ride.
