A private transfer from Cancun Airport to Playa Mujeres costs from $60 USD per vehicle, one way, for 1 to 6 passengers, and the drive usually takes about 35 to 45 minutes. A party of 7 pays the same $60, and a Sprinter van for 9 to 16 people is $113. We checked these figures against our published rate table on October 12, 2026. The rest of this page covers where Playa Mujeres actually is, why it gets confused with Isla Mujeres, and what changes when you’re coming back for a flight.
Playa Mujeres Transfer Prices
| Group size | Price per vehicle, one way | What it works out to per person |
|---|---|---|
| 2 passengers | $60 | $30.00 |
| 4 passengers | $60 | $15.00 |
| 6 passengers | $60 | $10.00 |
| 7 passengers | $60 | $8.57 |
| 9 to 16 passengers (Sprinter van) | $113 | $7.06 with 16 people |
Prices are in USD and set by group size. That 7 passenger line is worth a second look. On most of our routes a seventh person moves you to a higher rate, but Playa Mujeres stays at $60, so a family of seven doesn’t pay a cent more than a couple.
Round trips and groups of exactly 8 are calculated in the quote tool, since they don’t sit in the one way table.
Where Playa Mujeres Is (and Why People Mix It Up)

Playa Mujeres is a stretch of mainland coast north of downtown Cancún, past the Puerto Juárez ferry docks. It belongs to the municipality of Isla Mujeres, which is where the confusion starts. The island and the resort zone share a name, a municipality and a view of each other across the bay, but you don’t need a boat to reach Playa Mujeres. The car takes you to the resort lobby.
It’s an easy mistake to make on a booking form, and “Mujeres” on its own isn’t enough for a driver. So when you book, give us the full resort name. If your confirmation says Isla Mujeres, you’re going to the ferry instead, and that’s a different route at $50 to the Puerto Juárez terminal.
The zone is mostly large all-inclusive resorts set along one road, with a golf course behind them. Excellence Playa Mujeres, Beloved Playa Mujeres, Secrets Playa Mujeres, Finest Playa Mujeres, Dreams Playa Mujeres and Atelier Playa Mujeres all sit here. It’s quieter than the Hotel Zone, with no strip of bars and shops outside the gates, which is exactly why people pick it.
The Drive From the Airport
From the terminal the route heads north, skirts downtown Cancún and keeps going past Puerto Juárez before it turns onto the Playa Mujeres road. Plan on about 35 to 45 minutes in normal traffic. Weekday afternoons around downtown can add a little. Late at night it’s usually quicker.
Your driver tracks the flight number you give us, so a delay on landing moves the pickup time without you having to message anyone. Once you clear customs, look for your name on a sign in the arrivals area. Our flight delay guide walks through what happens if the plane is hours late.
Playa Mujeres or Costa Mujeres?

North of Playa Mujeres the coast keeps going into Costa Mujeres and Isla Blanca, a newer area with its own cluster of big resorts. The two names get used loosely, and some hotels describe themselves with either one. For pricing, they’re separate zones.
| Zone | 1 to 6 passengers | 7 passengers | Sprinter van |
|---|---|---|---|
| Playa Mujeres | $60 | $60 | $113 |
| Costa Mujeres and Isla Blanca | $70 | $70 | $137 |
| Hotel Zone and downtown Cancún, for comparison | $32 | $35 | $75 |
If you’re not sure which side of the line your resort falls on, type its name in the quote tool and it’ll place it for you. Our separate Costa Mujeres guide covers that zone in more detail.
The area is still growing. In June 2026, Riviera Maya News reported that environmental authorities approved a 401 suite project named Majestic Playa Mujeres, on the Chacmuchuch peninsula inside the Costa Mujeres development zone. It’s another sign that “Playa Mujeres” on a hotel name doesn’t always tell you which zone it’s in, so check before you book.
Beach Conditions Right Now

2026 was a heavy sargassum year along this coast, so it’s a fair question. The weekly report from How Is The Sargassum dated October 5, 2026 rated Playa Mujeres, North Cancún and Isla Mujeres as clear for the whole week. The same report said the Mexican Navy estimated about 10,000 tons offshore, down from more than 46,000 in early September, and that the regional alert had dropped from high to low.
The north-facing beaches here tend to catch less seaweed than the coast south of Playa del Carmen. That’s no guarantee, but for a trip this fall or winter the outlook is good.
Going Back to the Airport
On the way out, most international flights want you at the counter about three hours before departure. With a 35 to 45 minute drive, that means leaving your resort roughly three hours and 45 minutes before the flight, and a bit earlier if your flight leaves on a busy Saturday. Book the return when you book the arrival and we set the pickup time against your departure flight.
